Lenora Joe is the Director of Education, Language, Culture and Recreation
for the Sechelt (Shishalh) Nation since 2000. Prior to 2000 Lenora was the owner/operator of her own business for two years. Lenora was elected Council member of the shishalh nation from 1987-1990, in addition Lenora was elected to the local School District as a trustee from 1988 - 1993. Lenora also worked as the shishalh nations home school coordinator from 1993 - 1998. Lenora has been happily married for 25 years with two children, Rosanna 29 and Dwight 26. Lenora was born in 1962 at the Garden Bay Hospital before St. Mary´s Hospital was built. Lenora attended Chatelech Secondary and Capilano University. Lenora spends a majority of her time working with community members at work and in the home on various areas in education, language, culture and recreation. Lenora has a strong passion for the shishalh culture, history and language, she is determined to continue working on development of programs and services that enhance existing programs that are in place to revive our culture and language and teach our members about our history. Lenora is very committed to Education and believes this to be a lifelong process right from our babies to our elders; it is never too late to learn. Lenora strives to ensure that all our children learn to enjoy school and understand that in order for our nation to be successful we must continue our education journey right through to university with degrees in law, business management, finance, commerce, political science, health and education. Lenora believes that it is very important to celebrate our success in business as well as education, various community events are coordinated throughout the year to celebrate as much as possible. Lenora dream would be able to confidently/fluently speak shishalh, recite confidently our history and share our culture.
The Tem Swiya Museum is located in the main Sechelt (shishalh) Nation Administration Complex adjacent to the Raven's Cry Theatre 5555 Hwy 101 Sunshine Coast , BC.
